If Facebook Ads Make You Want To Run & Hide – READ THIS!

Do Facebook Ads make you want to run and hide? I know that I did when I first started with them! But love them or hate them, Facebook Ads are one of, if not the most, powerful form of advertising we have as a small business. I know when I first started I was tearing my hair out as I just couldn’t get my head around them – it used to drive me crazy! They just seemed so complicated, with sooo many options and I didn’t have a clue where to start. The good news is I’ve now figured them out and I promise you they’re not actually as bad as they seem! The best place to start with Facebook Ads is to understand the main different types of Ads and what they are used for, and that’s what today’s blog is all about.

But before you start setting up your Ads you first need to decide what you want to achieve from this particular Facebook Ad. So, what’s the end goal? Is it to grow your page, build your list, drive traffic to your website or to sell? There is an ad for each specific objective, but I see lots of people just diving in without first deciding on their main objective – so please, whatever you do, do this first! Here are the main Facebook Ads that I use:

1. Likes Ad: You will use this Facebook Ad when your goal is to attract your ideal customers to your page – so this Ad is used mainly to grow your page. This is a really important Ad and I would highly recommend starting off with this one, as by attracting your ideal customers over to your page you will start to build relationships with them – they will start to see your posts, get to know you and you will start to build the know, like and trust factor. This is so important as your ideal customers are very unlikely to buy if you don’t build this first. Think about it, when was the last time you bought from someone that you knew nothing about? So using this Ad to grow your page and build relationships is crucial. Also, when it comes to building your list or selling, targeting your own fans with these types of Ads is much more effective as you will be targeting your ads to a much warmer audience. It will also mean that these Ads will be much cheaper – so it’s a win win! Using this Ad has been the main way I have grew my page to 10,000 fans and that’s with just spending £1 a day – so it doesn’t need to be expensive! 2. Website Conversions: I use this type of Ad when I’m looking to get people to sign up to my email list. So I will promote my freebie in the Ad, whether it be a free e-book, cheat sheet, webinar etc. I have a list building Ad running all the time as building your email list is one of the most important things you should be doing. I set my budget to about £2 a day and get great results from this Ad. The bigger your list, the bigger your sales – it’s as simple as that! (Remember to add the Facebook pixel to your website to make sure you are tracking any conversions.) Then, once you have people on your list you can use your regular emails or e-newsletter to build relationships with them. Again this really helps to build the know, like and trust factor which means when it comes to you promoting something they are going to be much more likely to buy! 3. Clicks To Website: This type of Ad is used to drive traffic to your website. So you would use this Ad to promote a great content piece, for example a really great blog that you know people will find really useful, and your Ad will send people to it when they click on the link. Once you have them there don’t forget to have a sign up button at the bottom of the blog so you can get them signed up to your list also. You can also use this Ad to send people to a specific page, e.g. your sales page. For more info on clicks to website Ad’s watch the video here: http://bit.ly/28JE5rq

4. Custom Audience From Website: This Ad is used to re-target people on Facebook who have previously visited your website. The way that it’s done is that Facebook matches people who visit your website with people on Facebook by using a Facebook pixel. You can then create an ad to show to this specific audience – so you will be ‘re-targeting’ them.  So this Ad is getting a little more advanced, but it really does some clever stuff and can bring you great results. For example you can run an Ad to target people who visited a specific sales page, but didn’t buy. Or an Ad to target everyone who has visited your website in the last 30 days. But remember, for this to work you need to make sure you install a custom audience pixel on your website so that Facebook can track your website visitors. So these are the main Ads that I use in my business and I get some really amazing results from them!
